Researchers from the Department of Geomatics, led by prof. Pavelky , are involved in long-term monitoring of the minaret in the Iraqi city of Erbil.
The last surviving part of one of the oldest mosques in Iraqi Kurdistan has been targeted with a laser scanner to check its condition. The aim was to see if the minaret was still leaning. This was a follow-up to Prof. Pavelka's almost 20-year-old measurements that preceded the reconstruction of the minaret.
The data obtained should help to preserve the minaret for future years despite the unstable subsoil.
